Teleradiology standards - Quality assurance in teleradiology

Teleradiology Standards
Quality Assurance in Teleradiology

Teleradiology companies provide a wide range of services to thousands of hospitals and practice groups across the country and internationally. Yet, there are no teleradiology standards currently in place to monitor the quality of these groups. The services provided by each teleradiology company vary greatly – as well as the quality of reports.

Recognized Teleradiology Quality Assurance Standards

Although there are currently no industry-wide teleradiology standards for Quality Assurance in place, Imaging On Call is committed to providing the highest quality patient care. We provide detailed teleradiology Quality Assurance statistics for every customer, every month. If ever a customer feels there might be an issue, we take immediate action to correct the problem by working with our Chief Radiologist and Quality Assurance Officer to investigate what the cause might have been and to take any necessary corrective action.

Our Teleradiology Quality Assurance Standards program is recognized as one of the best in teleradiology.

Separate QA processes for our preliminary and final reads help us keep accurate percentages that track our performance over time. All reported discrepancies are fully investigated by our team of highly qualified radiologists and/or independent peer reviewers. We follow up with our customers about every miss, no matter how small. Our QA rating system was modeled after the well respected system of the ACR and is easy to understand and can be incorporated into any hospital QA program.

IOC Quality Assurance Standards Programs

  • 100% peer review process for preliminary reports. Every study is read twice by two independent radiologists; once by IOC at night, and once by the hospital radiologist the next morning. If the hospital radiologist finds a discrepancy, IOC will send the study to be read by a highly qualified independent third party radiologist who will issue the final decision.
  • For final reads, a random 5% of each month's reports are over read by a selected group of IOC's highly qualified radiologists.

Quality Assurance Follow Up

For each reported discrepancy, our customers will receive a letter from us with detailed information on the study as well as the findings of our reviewers. In addition, our Quality Assurance Coordinator will send Quarterly Reports to every customer detailing the number and types of discrepancies as well as percentages so you can track our performance over time. Quality Assurance Reports are available in print or via email.
